Care PartnersIf you come to live at one of our homes then you will receive the best care in a caring and homely environment. Every resident has an experienced and professional Care Partner who is responsible for the healthcare and happiness of their residents. Each month the residents' wants and wishes are built into the Careplan and actions taken to make these a reality. Families are encouraged to be involved in the care planning too, either at the monthly meeting or during specific relative's meetings. A residents' happiness is a gauge for success. It means that they are not only receiving good healthcare but their social and emotional well-being is being taken care of too.  |
Home Life at the MillingsRelax in one of the lounges, take in the views of the garden, take a stroll around the grounds, pop up to Bedale High Street for a newspaper or join in with a group activity. Life at the Millings is all about personal choice and making your own decisions. You have the freedom to do what you want when you want to. The spacious gardens offer plenty of choice to enjoy the outdoors and several lounges and indoor seating areas means you can choose a quiet or lively place depending on your mood. Meal times can be sociable too. We have developed several dining areas to meet everyone's preferences, or if you want to you can eat in your own room. The Millings has 36 spacious private bedrooms, all with private en-suite facilities and the majority have views over the lovely gardens. We have plenty of contact with Bedale community and are regularly visited by local dentists, chiropodists and a hairdresser comes every week. You can continue to use your own GP who will be supported by the Community Nursing Service and one of the local doctors' visits the home weekly for routine matters and residents are able to consult in private if they wish. The local clergy also visit and a Communion service is held in the home once a month. Many of our able residents regularly visit the local church which is only 50 yards from the home. |
Home life at St Johns HouseThank you to you all for the excellent care and friendship you gave to my mother. It was a great comfort to us all that she never failed to tell me and the rest of the family, on every visit, what a wonderful place it is and how well she was being cared for-like being on a permanent holiday in a nice hotel. Mr B Like The Millings, St John's House centres on the wishes of the individual. Our extensive beautiful gardens offer plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors whilst indoors the lounges and dining areas have been developed so there is plenty of choice for smaller groups to eat together. There are two lounges, three lounge/dining areas, one dining room and a sun lounge. All of our 34 spacious private bedrooms have an en-suite facilities with views of the gardens or surrounding area. Some residents chose to have a television for private viewing and bring small pieces of personal furniture for their rooms. This rural home has a very active relationship with the village communities of Kirk Hammerton and neighbouring Green Hammerton, with local amenities including a general stores, post office and newsagents, public house, adult education classes, the Women's Institute and local churches. We use our wheelchair accessible vehicle for trips from the home both locally and further afield and have recently visited the Black Sheep Brewery, the lily pond at Pocklington, the local Thai restaurant Sweet Basil, the National Railway Museum and Monk Park Farm. If it's going to be home it needs to feel like home which is why freedom and personal choice play a major part in life at St John's House. Our regular residents meetings are lively and the feedback goes into making life at the home even better. Residents come and go as they please and our open door policy for family and friends means there is always a buzz around the home. |
