Accommodation & Facilities

"There is always something going on and we have lots of laughs. I am very settled here and can't imagine being anywhere else. This is my home."

"I only mix when I feel like it and that is respected by the staff, I can be as quiet or as sociable as I like. I still have a mind of my own and I'm allowed to use it. Thank you." Mrs Winifred Atkinson

Homes of distinction

Full of character and distinction, both The Millings and St John's House have been lovingly restored to provide comfortable homes benefiting from the most modern facilities.

The Millings retains the timeless character of its 400 year old rectory origin, which combined with the stylishly redesigned interior offers all the modern facilities you would expect from a luxury care home.

St Johns interior

St John's House was originally built in 1910. The attractive Tudor style building has been completely refurbished to provide modern, luxurious facilities within a classic setting.

Meals

"The staff are very caring and the food is always lovely, they always ensure I have a tasty diabetic alternative for me. I feel happy and content here and love having nothing to worry about". Mrs Sylvia Burchell

Meals

Meals can be taken in one of the dining areas, lounges or if a resident prefers, in their own room. Our nutritious and tasty meals are planned seasonally by the catering team and residents and we have a varied menu to cater for all tastes or medical requirements.

Your own private space

We believe our homes are the perfect size; large enough to provide all the facilities and services our residents require, small enough to retain a personal and homely feel. The Millings offers 36, and St John's House 34, spacious private rooms. Every room is connected to a central Nurse Call System to ensure an immediate response from staff.

Residents' rooms are all spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated. All rooms have private ensuite facilities and residents can also enjoy our specialist bathrooms offering the latest designs of assisted baths and walk in showers which promote maximum independence and peace of mind.

All our rooms are fully furnished but many residents choose to bring small pieces of personal furniture with them. We arrange the rooms to suit the residents' wishes and personal preferences, for example with a TV and we will install a telephone if they wish.

Communal Areas

"There is always something going on and we have lots of laughs. I am very settled here and can't imagine being anywhere else. This is my home."

Each home has a wide variety and choice of sitting rooms, lounges and dining areas both inside and outside in the beautiful gardens, giving our residents plenty of space and choice.

Our gardens are popular with our residents and there are plenty of quiet areas with sun shades, tables and seating to make sure that everyone can enjoy the lovely surroundings.

Activities

Adding life to years

"We really do believe in adding life to years here at the Millings and St John's House.

Health is important but the social and emotional well-being of all our residents is also a priority so we listen to the wishes and ambitions of our residents and develop activities that they can enjoy individually or together" Anthea Adams, Activities Coordinator and Finalist in Best Ancillary Worker, North of England

Life at both our homes can be lively for those who enjoy a sociable environment. Activities are developed in partnership with our residents' wishes and include, for example, exercise classes, craft groups, flower arranging and quizzes. Regular outings are arranged during the day and on an evening, during the week and at weekends, and staff accompany residents on one-to-one outings too. The Millings location, just off the high street in Bedale means residents can pop out to the shops or village whenever they wish, and we have a wheelchair accessible minibus at St Johns to take residents further afield.

Our residents are keen to be active, that is why we invest time and resources in developing a great range or activities. There is something for everyone and if there isn't then we create something new!

  • We have 5 activity coordinators all of whom have a wide range of interests and complementary skills
  • We provide one-to-one, group activities and outings, including weeks and weekends, day and evening
  • We have our own wheelchair accessible vehicle
  • We listen and respond to residents requests
  • Our staff accompany residents if they are wary of going somewhere alone or have a specific request.
